Small scale Technology Certificates form part of the Australian Government's Small scale Renewable Energy Scheme. Eligible solar and battery systems can create STCs, which are commonly assigned to an agent and applied as an upfront discount to the installation price.
Solar STCs are calculated using the total rated capacity of the solar panels, the geographic zone rating and the remaining deeming period.
For Adelaide and surrounding suburbs, this calculator uses the Zone 3 rating of 1.382.
The deeming period reduces each year until the end of the scheme.
Battery STCs are calculated using eligible usable battery capacity and the STC factor applying on the installation date.
The full factor does not apply to every kWh on larger batteries. The incentive reduces progressively as usable battery capacity increases.
STCs have a market value rather than one permanently fixed price. The calculator uses $37 per STC as its default estimate.
The final point of sale discount can vary depending on certificate values and the arrangement used to create and assign the STCs.

INSTALLATION DATE
The base number of STCs available per eligible kWh reduces over time. The installation date determines which factor applies before the battery capacity taper is calculated.

BATTERY SIZE
The percentage applies progressively to each portion of usable battery capacity. Larger batteries do not have their entire capacity reduced to the lower percentage.

Percentage of the base STC factor applied to each capacity band
The first 14kWh receives 100% of the applicable base STC factor. The remaining 6kWh receives 60% of the factor. The entire 20kWh battery does not drop to the 60% rate.
Only the first 50kWh of eligible usable battery capacity can receive STCs. Final entitlement remains subject to the applicable program rules and system eligibility at the time of installation.
