HELIOS ELECTRICAL GROUP

Solar Repairs
Adelaide

Solar fault finding, repairs and system health checks for systems that are underperforming, showing faults or have stopped working.

Helios Electrical Group diagnoses solar faults across Adelaide, from inverter errors and monitoring issues through to wiring faults, water ingress, damaged components and unexplained drops in system performance.

Request a Solar Inspection

FIND THE FAULT FIRST

Diagnose before replacing.

A solar fault does not automatically mean the entire system needs replacing. We inspect and test the installation, identify what is actually wrong and explain the practical options before further work is recommended.

SOLAR FAULT FINDING

WHEN YOUR SOLAR SYSTEM ISN'T WORKING PROPERLY

Solar problems are not always obvious from the ground.

A system may still appear to be operating while producing less energy than expected, losing monitoring data or developing intermittent electrical faults.

Other systems stop completely and display an inverter error, trip electrical protection or fail after weather, equipment deterioration or component failure.

Helios approaches solar repairs as an electrical fault finding job first. We inspect, test and work through the system before explaining what has been found and what repair options make sense.

01

Test First

The system is inspected and tested before repair or replacement work is recommended.

02

Clear Findings

We explain the fault and the practical options available for the existing system.

03

Repair Where Practical

Replacement is recommended where it makes sense, not simply because a fault has appeared.

COMMON SOLAR FAULTS

WHAT WE CAN INVESTIGATE

Inverter Faults

Inverter errors can be caused by the inverter itself or by another issue elsewhere in the solar installation.

  • Inverter error codes
  • Inverter not starting
  • Intermittent inverter operation
  • Grid related faults
  • Insulation and earth faults
  • Inverter replacement assessment
  • System recommissioning

Performance Drops

A noticeable change in production can indicate a system fault or another issue affecting solar output.

  • Unexpected production drop
  • Low solar output
  • String performance issues
  • Panel related faults
  • Connection problems
  • System performance testing
  • Production review

Monitoring Issues

Sometimes the solar system is operating but the monitoring platform is not displaying the information correctly.

  • Monitoring offline
  • Missing production data
  • Energy flow display issues
  • Consumption monitoring faults
  • Meter and CT checks
  • Communication faults
  • Monitoring reconfiguration

Electrical & Weather Damage

Solar equipment is exposed to heat, weather and changing conditions over many years of operation.

  • Damaged wiring and connections
  • Isolation switch failures
  • Water ingress
  • Corrosion
  • Faulty breakers or fuses
  • Storm and hail related damage
  • Damaged electrical equipment

SIGNS OF A PROBLEM

Your system does not need to be completely dead to have a fault.

Some solar faults are obvious. Others show up gradually through lower production, intermittent inverter errors or monitoring that no longer reflects what the system is actually doing.

If something has changed without a clear reason, it is worth investigating rather than assuming the system is operating normally.

Inverter Error

The inverter is displaying a warning, fault code or abnormal operating status.

No Production

The system appears to have stopped generating solar energy.

Production Has Dropped

Solar output is noticeably lower than expected without an obvious explanation.

Monitoring Offline

The monitoring app has stopped updating or no longer shows the expected data.

Breaker Trips

Solar related electrical protection is tripping or will not remain on.

Visible Damage

Equipment shows signs of weather damage, heat, corrosion, water ingress or deterioration.

REPAIR OR REPLACE?

THE RIGHT ANSWER DEPENDS ON THE SYSTEM

A fault does not automatically mean a new solar system.

Some faults can be repaired by replacing a failed component, correcting wiring or connection issues, repairing monitoring or replacing an inverter.

Other systems may be old enough that replacement or a larger upgrade becomes more practical than continuing to repair ageing equipment.

We look at the condition of the existing installation, the fault itself and the longer term value of the available options before making a recommendation.

We consider:

  • The age of the solar system
  • The component that has failed
  • The condition of the remaining equipment
  • Availability of compatible replacement parts
  • Current system performance
  • Whether future battery storage is planned
  • Whether the existing system still suits the property

SYSTEM HEALTH CHECKS

NOT SURE IF THERE IS A FAULT?

01

System Inspection

We can inspect the accessible solar equipment and look for visible signs of deterioration, damage or electrical issues.

02

Performance Check

Available system information can be reviewed alongside electrical testing to help determine whether the installation is operating as expected.

03

Practical Advice

If an issue is identified, we explain what has been found and whether repair, monitoring or further work is recommended.

OUR REPAIR PROCESS

FIND THE FAULT. FIX THE CAUSE.

01

Inspect & Test

We inspect the solar installation, review the reported symptoms and carry out suitable electrical and system testing.

02

Diagnose & Explain

Once the likely fault is identified, we explain the findings and the practical repair or replacement options.

03

Repair & Retest

Approved repairs are completed and the system is retested to confirm operation before the job is finished.

COMMON QUESTIONS

SOLAR REPAIR FAQ

Why has my solar system stopped working?

A solar system can stop operating for many reasons, including inverter faults, electrical protection issues, wiring problems, damaged components, grid related faults or equipment deterioration. Testing is normally required to determine the actual cause.

Why is my solar system producing less power than it used to?

Changes in weather and seasonal conditions can affect solar production, but a sustained or unexplained reduction may also indicate a fault, panel issue, string problem, inverter issue or another change within the installation.

Does an inverter error mean the inverter needs replacing?

Not always. Some inverter errors are caused by conditions elsewhere in the solar or electrical installation. The error and system should be tested before assuming the inverter itself has failed.

Can a solar inverter be replaced without replacing the panels?

In many situations an inverter can be replaced while the existing solar panels remain in service, provided the existing system and replacement equipment are suitable. The installation needs to be assessed before the replacement is selected.

Why has my solar monitoring stopped working?

Monitoring problems can be caused by communications, internet connectivity, configuration, meters, CTs or other monitoring equipment. In some cases the solar system continues operating normally even though the monitoring platform is no longer displaying the correct information.

Can water or corrosion cause solar faults?

Yes. Solar equipment is exposed to outdoor conditions and water ingress or corrosion can affect isolators, connections, enclosures and other electrical components.

Can you inspect a solar system after a storm or hail event?

Yes. If there are signs of damage or the system has changed behaviour after severe weather, the installation can be inspected and tested to determine whether further repair work is required.

Is it better to repair or replace an older solar system?

It depends on the age of the system, the component that has failed, the condition of the remaining equipment and the cost and availability of compatible repairs. We assess the existing system before recommending the most practical option.

Can you carry out a solar system health check?

Yes. A solar system can be inspected and tested where there are concerns about performance, ageing equipment or unexplained changes in operation.
