HELIOS ELECTRICAL GROUP
Modern switchboards, circuit protection and electrical upgrades designed around the property today and what it may need in the future.
Helios Electrical Group upgrades switchboards across Adelaide for homes, renovations, solar, batteries, EV charging, three phase supplies and ageing electrical installations.

The board needs suitable circuit protection, enough space for the installation and a design that works with the property's existing and future electrical requirements.
SWITCHBOARD UPGRADES
The switchboard distributes electricity throughout the property and houses the protective devices associated with the electrical circuits.
Older boards can become crowded, difficult to work with or unsuitable for modern electrical additions. Upgrading the board can improve circuit protection, provide room for new equipment and prepare the property for larger electrical changes.
Helios assesses the existing installation before recommending the upgrade so the finished switchboard suits the property rather than simply replacing old equipment with new equipment.
Circuit protection assessed and upgraded using suitable modern protective equipment.
Circuits arranged and labelled so the finished board is easier to understand and maintain.
Solar, batteries, EV charging and future circuits considered as part of the overall upgrade where relevant.
WHAT WE DO
Replacement and upgrading of ageing or unsuitable residential switchboards.
Circuit protection can be upgraded as part of a broader switchboard improvement.
Three phase supply may be considered where the property's electrical requirements have increased or larger loads are being added.
Switchboard work can be coordinated with solar, battery and EV charging projects so the electrical infrastructure supports the new equipment.
IS IT TIME TO UPGRADE?
Not every older switchboard requires exactly the same work, but there are common situations where an assessment or upgrade makes sense.
The existing wiring, protective devices, available space and future electrical requirements should all be considered before deciding what needs to change.
Ceramic fuses or ageing protective equipment are still installed.
Existing circuits do not have the level of modern circuit protection expected for the planned work.
The switchboard is full, poorly arranged or has little room for additional circuits.
Significant electrical work is being completed as part of an extension or renovation.
New solar or battery equipment requires additional electrical infrastructure.
A new EV charger or other large electrical load is being added to the property.
THINKING AHEAD
New energy systems may require additional switchboard space, protective devices, metering arrangements or changes to the existing electrical installation.
EV chargers can introduce a significant new electrical load, making supply capacity and circuit protection important parts of the installation.
Induction cooking, electric hot water, larger air conditioning systems and other future loads can change the electrical requirements of a property.
SINGLE OR THREE PHASE?
Many properties can have their switchboard upgraded while retaining the existing electrical supply.
Three phase may become relevant where larger electrical loads are being added, additional supply capacity is required or planned solar, battery and EV equipment makes it worthwhile to review the existing supply arrangement.
We assess what the property actually needs rather than automatically recommending three phase simply because the switchboard is being replaced.
OUR PROCESS
We inspect the existing switchboard, circuit protection, wiring arrangement, supply and any electrical additions being planned.
The required switchboard, protective devices and associated electrical alterations are installed around the needs of the existing property.
Circuits and protective equipment are tested, the board is labelled and the completed installation is checked before handover.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Common reasons for assessing a switchboard include ageing fuse equipment, limited circuit protection, an overcrowded board, renovations or the addition of new electrical loads such as solar, batteries and EV chargers. The existing installation should be assessed before deciding what work is required.
Older ceramic fuse boards are a common reason homeowners consider upgrading. The condition of the switchboard, existing wiring, available protection and the broader electrical installation should be assessed before the final scope is determined.
An RCBO combines overcurrent protection and residual current protection for an individual circuit. They are commonly used in modern switchboards to provide circuit specific protection.
Not every solar installation requires a complete switchboard replacement. The existing board needs to be assessed for available space, circuit protection, condition and the requirements of the proposed solar system.
It depends on the existing installation and the battery system being installed. Battery systems may require additional protective equipment, metering, backup circuits or other switchboard alterations. We assess this as part of the battery design.
Not necessarily. EV chargers can be installed on single phase and three phase properties. The appropriate charger capacity depends on the available electrical supply, vehicle requirements, charging expectations and the load already present at the property.
No. A switchboard can often be upgraded while retaining the existing supply. Three phase is considered separately based on the property's electrical demand and future requirements.
Where required as part of the project, consumer mains and metering related work can be considered alongside the switchboard upgrade. The exact scope depends on the existing supply and the changes being made to the property.
Yes. Surge protection can be considered as part of a switchboard upgrade where appropriate for the installation.
